At Heritage Home, we have a team of therapists trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches. Through one-on-one counseling we can develop a program for you, using the right combination of approaches for your specific needs.
At Heritage Home, we treat body, mind, and spirit as we work towards our clients' recovery and personal development. Holistic healing is based on the idea that the body, mind, and spirit function as a harmonious unit and adverse effects on one also affect the others, requiring treatment of the whole to restore the harmonious balance.
Substance abuse negatively affects all aspects of the human condition. We help our clients to discover their own needs and find a healing process that can continue in their life after treatment.
Cognitive Therapy
Cognitive therapy focuses on changing clients' inaccurate beliefs and distorted attitudes about themselves by examining the positive and negative results of behaviors and beliefs.
Behavioral Therapy
Behavioral therapy focuses on modifying or "unlearning" unhealthy behavior without considering any underlying causes, without creating basic changes in personality, and without exploring the client's thoughts and feelings. Clients change their behaviors by applying basic learning techniques: for example, finding effective and immediate ways of responding to triggers and chemical urges.
The Psycho-educational Approach
Psycho-education helps clients to understand more about their emotional and behavioral difficulties. Clients learn effective techniques that will help them to control their own undesirable behaviors. Over time, the frequency and intensity of the behavior diminishes.
Psycho-educational techniques can also help individuals and their families to understand the harmful results of substance abuse and to help them help themselves and their loved ones. Mutual understanding helps families build supportive relationships, develop empathy, and find healthy ways of coping with substance abuse.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Once clients have learned effective coping skills, they often want to understand the underlying causes of addiction. Psychodynamic therapy helps the client to trace behavior to its origins, in order to understand the unconscious forces that mold personality and produce emotional disorder. This type of therapy can help a person resolve trauma, improve self-esteem, and develop healthy relationships. This helps to reduce the risk of relapse.
Traditional Native Healing
Traditional Native Healing is based on a holistic approach that helps the person as a whole - as a physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional being. Clients engage in traditional ceremonies -- the Healing Circle and Sweat Lodge -- that are based in cultural beliefs of the aboriginal people of Turtle Island ( North America ). The healing ceremonies are lead by a native elder.
Healing Circle: The healing circle is one of the most powerful native ceremonies. It brings people together through sharing and support. A healing circle is often followed by a sweat lodge to help in the healing.
Sweat lodge: The sweat lodge reconnects us to the mother earth and to ourselves in a very safe and loving environment. The lodge is used for healing in all native cultures. It is a very sacred ceremony. An aboriginal elder leads the ceremony and acts as a guide for participants.
Creative Arts Therapies
Creative art therapy integrates drama, theater, art and music with psychotherapeutic approaches to treatment. Through the creative arts our clients discover new ways of changing old dysfunctional patterns of behavior. They experience personal growth, enhance their social skills, and develop a healthier quality of life.
Human Relations (applied psychology)
Clients learn strategies for resolving conflict and use this newfound knowledge in role-play scenarios and real life examples. Clients then learn to use these skills to enhance their own lives.
